Thursday, 25 August saw our first Eurostaff Connect Meetup in Stockholm, revolved around the exciting and rapidly moving technologies Virtual and Augmented Reality. 150 guests turned up to explore the topic ‘Disruptive innovation mapping the technological future in virtual and augmented reality’, myself, IT Manager Dominic Galla and IT and Innovation Specialists Hannah Jarvis and Daniel Barton were privileged to be joined by five keynote industry speakers who explored varied topics to do with the market.

Johan Hägerström and Joel Ring founders for captivated the audience by presenting to the listeners a live virtual reality (you had to be there to truly understand what this meant for all involved) it was ground-breaking and it was interesting to see the guys walking around the venue with VR headsets on, showing them as virtual beings on the PowerPoint screen ahead, with their movements and them talking to us as their virtual self’s..

Next up we looked at women in technology, specific of course to our Meetup theme virtual and augmented reality and how this impacts the representation of the female gender; Veronica Chiaravalli - Founder, CEO & CRO (Chief Robotics Officer) of Emerging Technologies shared with the audience her experiences working in this technology space and what she had learnt and hoped to achieve in the future – she highlighted how the gender gap is being addressed by the government in Sweden but that more needs to be done and women recognized for their specialist skill-sets, Andrea Berglund - Developer at HiQ Stockholm finished the discussion off nicely by providing a developers guide to a more inclusive work-environment, she shared practical tips and tricks from a Scrum master / feminist on how to lift your teams strengths and make all kinds of people feel welcomed. At this point it was off for a quick break to have food, drinks, networking but more importantly (and excitingly) have a play on some of the demos set up around the venue…

We were honored to be joined by Faviana Vangelius with the team’s demo of its debut title SVRVIVE; with a sole focus on VR gameplay, inaugural title SVRVIVE offers a new and dynamic gaming experience to the HTC Vive. Allowing players to explore new worlds and dimensions, this mystery puzzle game fuses immersive user experience with head scratching storytelling, adding to an exciting wave of game developments for HTC’s industry shaking stake in the VR world. Also on board with his demo was Jonatan Crafoord showing off his virtual immersive puzzle game which received amazing reviews…

The evening continued with more presentations, William Hamilton, CEO at Mimerse talked about disruptive innovation and VR in healthcare, he presented about healthcare and how VR is the next big thing, and finally the event concluded with Viktor Peterson; founder of CLVR Works & Viktor Productions he took us on a journey into the Sweden Rock Festival in 360.
