By the time Bruno got his first development job he was already proficient in a variety of coding languages. Different development roles may require knowledge of various coding languages, but with Java, Python and PHP among the most widely taught, developers adaptable to different languages are always in high demand.
As computing has evolved and innovated over the years, so has the role of an IT Consultant. Working in partnership with clients, consultants may provide strategic guidance in regards to technology, IT infrastructure and digitally enhancing the business.
Upon applying for the role at Ghent University, Bruno realised he needed to know PERL, a previously unfamiliar coding language which he learnt in his spare time in order to secure the role. In this role, Bruno was responsible for the design and development of the majority of their student administration software.
With the success of iText, Bruno’s open source software library, he looked to commercialise his product. Despite a few setbacks, the company continued to grow, eventually becoming a global brand. Within 11 years of developing iText, also in his spare time, Bruno had turned it into a million pound business.
After selling iText Group to ThinkFree, Bruno continued to influence the company and became Chief Strategy Officer. He aims to break the €10 million ceiling in 2017.
After leaving Tata, Pooja moved onto Rolta, another global business who work to provide IT solutions on an international scale. With plenty of experience and a variety of proficient coding languages, Pooja was able to take a more senior role in this company.
Pooja then moved onto a similar role at BA Continuum, who deliver financial solutions around the world. Again, using her experience and vast industry knowledge, Pooja earned a senior role working primarily as a Full Stack Developer.
Working on an international team of 10 talented developers, Pooja now helps capture the latest trends in media monitoring. With a service that extracts millions of messages around the clock, Pooja has found herself crunching terabytes of data. With the job demanding smart coding solutions that can scale, she is presented with challenges throughout the processing, analysing and visualisation of data.
After consulting with some friends in a bar just before graduation, Dennis joined a late-stage start-up that needed Java Programmers. As a fresh graduate, he entered the company eager to learn how to progress his career in software development. While a degree helps graduates appear more attractive to employers for this role, it is also open to those who are self-taught to a professional standard.
During his time at EDF, Allel’s role saw him determine and implement the appropriate data management systems. The specific tool chosen automatically generated press releases and reviews on previously defined topics and while there are often plenty of data issues, he would ensure it always ran smoothly.
Developers who can work on both web and mobile are key throughout the software engineering industry. During Allel’s time in this role he designed and created an internal app that would allow employees to manage their schedules. These roles rely heavy on front and back end coding, so a knowledge of one or more is always beneficial.
In this role, Allel developed a prototype to increase the amount of interaction a user could have with the AdServio system via gestures. Software developers typically hold a degree regarding computing, however self-taught developers can also make a name for themselves without one.
With a degree in IT, Anas first started his development career working on small tasks, in the hope of proving he could actually work on bigger, more important tasks. Eventually, he was given opportunities to work on major projects throughout the business including a payment per click web application and another application which compared products.
Taking a leading role within Proje Rehberi, Anas was in charge of design, implementation, development and deployment of the businesses’ main web application. A more senior role allowed for increased responsibility. This led to further career development as Anas had to take other areas into consideration, including new angles and problems such as: considering responsiveness for small screens compared to performance optimisation.
Anas’ industry experience allowed him to move to more senior roles and during his time at Pool interactive Ab, he became responsible for creating web-based SaaS and applications. In more senior roles, web engineers need to be able to demonstrate a knowledge of specific coding languages and processes.
Co-founding the leading European VR gaming company straight out of university, Pontus took his knowledge of game engines and coding to lead the programming of the company’s first release, The Deus Helix which has been met with positive reviews since its inception in 2016.
Viktor’s first paid job wasn’t as a Junior Developer or even a graduate role. He started as a Greenkeeper at his family’s golf course in Sweden. While he may not have continued to pursue a career mowing lawns and tending to the plants, the job taught him to finish jobs and practice efficiency, skills which have helped his career moving forward.
Patrik left Spotify to pursue a business venture of his own. Warpin’ Media is swiftly becoming a one stop destination for immersive technology and while Patrik doesn’t always have time to get stuck in with the coding, he makes sure he always has time for any side projects that allow him to further pursue his passions.
John’s next career move took him to Trice Imaging, which was looking to replace what they saw as archaic forms of communication in the healthcare sector. He worked primarily on server and appliance infrastructures, while developing critical software components such as image conversion, video encoding and network communication. One big achievement in this role was hacking an Android device to develop a portable ultrasound which send images to doctors around the world.
