Tone, Style & Delivery

Key Points

  • Tone: Your Tone of voice must convey confidence and enthusiasm and project a positive impression to your interviewer.
  • Speech: Make sure you speak slowly and clearly, taking a moment to collect your thoughts if necessary.
  • Smile! Even though your interviewer cannot see you… smiling will also enhance the way you come across and how the interviewer reads your personality
  • Experience: Answering specific technical question in relation to past project experience will have a positive impact on the interviewer
  • Silences: Awkward silences will happen! To manage these relax, depending on where you are in the conversation ask an appropriate open question.
  • Mirror the Interviewer’ tone: It establishes instant rapport. Here’s how to do it. First, try to match the person’s rate of speaking. How fast or slow is he/she talking? Then mirror the level of his/her voice. Is he/she speaking softly or loudly? You don’t have to match exactly, but if the interviewer is speaking slowly, calmly and quietly, don’t talk quickly, excitedly and loudly!
  • Dog Words: Try not to use, Urm, Er, etc…
  • Finally… be yourself and relax. You need to be composed if you want to make your own mind up about the next stage.
